New Jersey Merchants: Your Sales Tax is About to Change

For businesses operating in New Jersey, there has been an announcement regarding a sales tax reduction.

Effective January 1, 2017, New Jersey’s sales tax rate will be reduced from 7 percent to 6.875 percent.

For merchants enrolled in the UEZ program, they will continue to pay half the sales tax amount. Beginning January 1, UEZ merchants will pay a reduced rate of 3.4375 percent.

POS systems will manually calculate the new tax rate, but manual devices require merchant awareness as they calculate the tax rate on their cash registers.
