Upgrade to Magento 2 by This June to Avoid PCI Noncompliance

The leading e-commerce platform, Magento, will be sunsetting Magento 1 this coming June—and in order to avoid security risks, PCI noncompliance, and other issues, users of Magento 1 will need to upgrade to Magento 2.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Which Versions of Magento 1 Are Reaching End-of-Life?

All versions of Magento 1, including Commerce 1 and Open Source 1, will be phased out.

Why is it Necessary to Upgrade to Magento 2?

Magento will no longer be providing security patches and updates for Magento 1 once it has reached end-of-life status in June of 2020. This means that users will be at risk for security breaches due to vulnerabilities in their software, and they may even experience their website or plugins becoming unstable and unusable.

Why Will Magento 1 Users Fall Out of Compliance With PCI DSS?

Per the Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standards 6.1 and 6.2, merchants must keep their systems up to date with vendor-supplied security patches in order to address known vulnerabilities in software. Since Magento will no longer be providing patches for Magento 1 security vulnerabilities, Magento 1 users will no longer be compliant.
